Cammsys has begun mass production of camera modules for Samsung Electronics’ artificial intelligence (AI) refrigerators. The company has expanded its smartphone-focused camera module business into home appliances, securing its first mass-production revenue in the sector.

Cammsys said Nov. 4 that it will begin supplying ultra-wide-angle and AI camera modules for all models of Samsung Electronics’ Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerators this month.

The supply agreement marks Cammsys’ first mass production of camera modules for home appliances. The company is applying its design and mass-production technologies developed for smartphone camera modules to home appliances.

Cammsys is also working with Samsung Electronics’ Digital Appliances (DA) division to develop cameras for home appliances other than refrigerators. Because appliance cameras often maintain the same specifications over extended supply periods, the business could reduce revenue volatility compared with mobile camera modules.

In non-mobile applications, Cammsys is also developing cameras for robotics and security. The company is pursuing supplies of facial recognition cameras and is participating in the camera-related supply chain for the hands of Hyundai Motor Group’s Atlas humanoid robot.

“We will continue development cooperation with Samsung Electronics and expand the range of home appliances using our camera modules that can be supplied over the long term,” a Cammsys official said. “We will also pursue new business opportunities in non-mobile sectors, including robotics.”
