AMD to Supply Latest Server CPUs, DPUs to Oracle

AMD announced on Oct. 27 (local time) that it will supply its latest server central processing units (CPUs) and data processing units (DPUs) to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
The products include AMD’s sixth-generation EPYC Venice CPUs and Pensando DPUs. The EPYC Venice processors will be used in OCI Compute E7 instances, Oracle’s virtual server service.
An instance is a virtual computer that can be deployed immediately in a cloud environment. E7 instances provide CPU computing services for workloads ranging from enterprise software to artificial intelligence (AI) models. They handle the orchestration of AI agents that independently make decisions and assign tasks, as well as concurrent agent sandboxes that isolate multiple AI agents for secure execution.
Pensando DPUs will be integrated into Oracle Acceleron converged network interface cards (NICs). These dedicated chips accelerate networking, storage input/output and security operations, which previously consumed computing resources on the main CPU. They will be deployed in OCI instances powered by AMD CPUs and graphics processing units (GPUs).
Pensando is a programmable processing unit that allows key services, including networking, storage and security, to be reprogrammed and improved. It can flexibly adapt to new networking requirements, AI workloads and changes in data traffic.
The DPUs also support security patching without service interruptions, allowing infrastructure security policies to be updated while cloud services remain operational.
