Digital Science announced on October 29, 2026 that it has acquired Jenni AI, an AI-native research and writing platform the company says is used by more than 8 million students and researchers across 189 countries.

The acquisition will connect Jenni AI to Digital Science’s research data, starting with Dimensions, which the company describes as its database of 171 million research publications, so that the sources Jenni AI users find and cite are grounded in the published research record. Over the coming months, Jenni AI will incorporate Digital Science’s research data, beginning with the Dimensions database and its full-text search capabilities, in what the company said will help researchers discover, understand, and cite scholarly literature.

How Jenni AI Works

Jenni AI is designed to help students and researchers move from a first idea to a finished piece of work. Users can upload papers or import their reference libraries, explore and make sense of their chosen sources, draft and refine their writing, and check citations against the original material. The company describes the product as combining an intuitive generative AI experience with source discovery, reference libraries, verifiable citations, and academic writing, and says it feels as intuitive as a general-purpose AI tool while being built for the demands of academic research.

The company said that citation-checking function matters because general-purpose AI tools can generate references that do not exist, making it harder to show where a researcher’s own work begins and ends.

Digital Science also pointed to a September 2026 Oxford University Press survey of more than 2,600 researchers, which found that 74% of respondents are unsure which uses of AI they should disclose and that 48% say they have not fully disclosed their use of AI.

Portfolio Fit and Executive Statements

Jenni AI joins Overleaf, Papers AI, and ReadCube in Digital Science’s portfolio of research tools. Digital Science describes Overleaf as a platform for collaborative LaTeX writing, ReadCube as providing AI-powered reference management, and Papers AI as bringing data, analysis, and writing together.

Stephen Leicht, CEO of Digital Science, framed the acquisition around verifiable citations. “Researchers already use AI as a matter of routine. What they can’t get from a general-purpose tool is a citation that has been checked against the actual paper,” he said. Leicht said that inside Digital Science, every source Jenni AI suggests can be verified against Dimensions and its 171 million publications, and that this remains true as a researcher’s work grows from a first thesis chapter to a funded lab. He also welcomed David, Marc, Shailesh, and the Jenni AI team to the company.

Digital Science said the acquisition expands its support for researchers across their entire research journey, from the first spark of an idea through to data-heavy research and publication. The company added that the deal strengthens its direct relationships with PhD and master’s students at the start of their careers, supporting them as their research grows.

David Park, CEO of Jenni AI, said the company was founded on the belief that “the future is written with AI, not by AI,” and that Jenni was built to help researchers explore their curiosity and publish strong work. He described joining Digital Science as a major step toward a future in which every researcher has access to the knowledge, tools, and confidence to push the boundaries of human discovery.

The Two Companies

Digital Science describes itself as an AI-focused technology company providing research data, tools, and infrastructure to address complex challenges faced by researchers, universities, governments, funders, industry, and publishers. Its brands are Altmetric, Dimensions, Figshare, IFI CLAIMS Patent Services, metaphacts, Overleaf, Papers AI, ReadCube, Symplectic, and Writefull.

Jenni AI, founded by David Park and Henry Mao in 2020, describes itself as an AI research and writing assistant built for academic work, used to find and understand sources, develop ideas, draft and refine writing, and check citations against the original material. The company said Jenni AI will continue as a standalone product under its own name, with the same team, pricing, and subscription plans.
