Italy’s Generative Bionics, AMD team up to train European humanoids

Digital twins will train humanoid robots at scale before they ever enter the world, CEO Daniele Pucci said.
Italian humanoid developer Generative Bionics is teaming up with long-time strategic partner AMD to build what it calls “Europe’s largest” physical AI data factory.
The initiative will help advance the region’s humanoid sovereignty, “ensuring that the data, models and know-how behind Europe’s industrial humanoids are generated, trained and validated on the continent”, the company said announcing the factory at CES Unveiled in Milan today (21 October).
The first 5,000 sq metre hub in Italy, which makes up a part of the multi-site factory, is expected to be operational by the tail end of 2027. This will be followed with a second facility “elsewhere” in Europe, and a third one that serves global markets, Generative Bionics said.
Founded in 2024 by a team of researchers from the Italian Institute of Technology, Generative Bionics is a domestic robot manufacturer, building humanoids designed for repetitive, hazardous or high-intensity operational tasks across sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and retail.
The company launched in late 2025 with a €70m seed round backed by CDP Venture Capital, with the participation of AMD Ventures, Duferco, Eni Next, RoboIT and Tether.
AMD is also powering the new factory’s data network with its Helios rack-scale AI infrastructure. The American chipmaker’s compute already supports Generative Bionics’ first humanoid, the Gene.01, a “fully functional smart-skin” robot built in six months and designed to collaborate safely with humans, according to the company.
The Italian hub, set to be “Europe’s largest physical AI training facility”, will reproduce environments selected with industrial partners and allow fleets of Gene.01 robots to perform tasks continuously in real-world conditions. This will enable the company to source vision and motion data generated by Gene.01 to create digital twin simulations for further physical AI training, the company said.
“We are replicating the world, physically and digitally, to train humanoid robots at scale before they ever enter it,” said Daniele Pucci, the CEO of Generative Bionics.
While global humanoid sales have jumped 272pc in a year, Europe’s share in the market is a fraction of what China holds. According to recent analysis, China captures more than 97pc of the humanoid market, while simultaneously representing more than 85pc of global demand.
Shanghai-based producer Agibot overtook Unitree – which recently went public – to become the world’s largest humanoid robot vendor, capturing 44pc of the global market. Together, the two vendors account for 75pc of humanoid robot sales across the world.
Agibot, meanwhile, is also accelerating its international expansion, particularly in Europe, with products already deployed in markets including the UK and Germany.
