Tata Communications 計劃投資 $450M 在印度建設 AI 光纖網絡

Tata Communications plans to spend close to $450M on about 10,000km of new long-distance fibre across India. The network will connect the country’s AI data-centre hubs, Reuters reported on Monday.

The Mumbai-based company, which sells data connections and cybersecurity services to businesses, set out the plan in a stock exchange filing. Indian financial sites that reported the filing put the cost at Rs 4,350 crore.

The work will happen in three phases. First comes the corridor linking Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Later phases will reach data-centre clusters on the east coast and in western India. These include Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar and GIFT City, the business district in Gujarat.

According to Reuters, the network targets cloud companies, banks and global capability centres. These are the offshore hubs that multinational firms run in India.

The build will add about 6 petabits per second of capacity, as the filing show. Today the company’s network in India carries 1.25 petabits per second. That extra capacity is due to arrive between the 2030 and 2036 financial years.

Tata Communications will pay for the project from its operating cash flow, according to those reports. One of them added that anchor customers have already committed to using the network.

The new routes will plug into the company’s existing network of around 700,000km of undersea and land fibre.

The project builds on earlier work for large cloud customers. Last year, Tata Communications agreed to build an 18,000km fibre network for Amazon Web Services, linking its sites in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai, Verdict reported. That network is due to be finished by the end of 2026.

Other Indian groups are also investing in AI infrastructure. Earlier, Adani and Jabil announced plans to build data-centre hardware in the country.
