Word Heading 1 樣式教學:修改一個標題,同步更新所有套用該樣式的標題
Word Heading 1 style: change one heading, update them all

A report with a dozen section headings has a dozen places where someone has to change the font size and colour when the design changes. Doing it one heading at a time is slow, and it's easy to miss one, which is exactly the kind of inconsistency a reviewer notices first.
Word's styles solve this, as long as your headings actually use a style.
TL;DR: format one heading the way you want, right-click Heading 1 in the Styles gallery, and choose Update Heading 1 to Match Selection.
Steps
- Change just one heading to the look you want (size, colour, font) and keep it selected.
- On the Home tab, find Heading 1 in the Styles gallery and right-click it.
- Choose Update Heading 1 to Match Selection. Every heading that uses Heading 1 changes at once.
From then on, any new heading only needs one click on Heading 1 to get the same look.
We tried this in Word for the web, where the menus match the names above.
Before you start: check the headings use the style
This trick only reaches headings that have the Heading 1 style applied. If a previous author made headings by bolding normal text and bumping the size, Word has no way to know those lines are headings. Click a heading and look at which style is highlighted in the gallery. If it says Normal, apply Heading 1 to each heading once, and you won't have to do it again.
Why it pays off beyond formatting
- The navigation pane and an automatic table of contents both read heading styles. Fake headings don't show up in either.
- Screen readers use heading styles to let people jump between sections, so styled headings make the document more accessible.
- Styles travel with the document. Whoever edits it next can keep the look consistent without guessing the font size you used.
Common mistakes
- Selecting only part of the heading. Select the whole line so Word picks up the formatting you meant.
- Mixing the style with manual formatting. If you override a few headings by hand after updating the style, they'll drift again. Change the style, not the individual line.
- Expecting it to touch Heading 2. Each level is its own style. Repeat the process for Heading 2 if subheadings need the same treatment.
In code
When documents are generated, python-docx lets you change the style itself rather than each paragraph:
from docx import Document
from docx.shared import Pt
doc = Document("report.docx")
doc.styles["Heading 1"].font.size = Pt(16)
doc.save("report.docx")
Every paragraph using Heading 1 picks up the new size, which is the same idea as the right-click update, just scripted.
I used an AI assistant to help write this. The steps were checked in Word for the web.
