Agent loops often need exactly one thing: the current price of one ticker. The usual routes to that number are a subscription feed or another API key to babysit. SML Quick Quote is the pay-per-call primitive instead.

GET /api/quick/quote/AAPL→ HTTP 402 in 0.66 s, quoting $0.001 (1,000 atomic USDC, Base mainnet) for one provider-backed US equity price and volume reading. - No SML API key. No monthly subscription. The 402 challenge is the entire checkout.
- Fail-closed: provider availability is checked before paid delivery. If no configured provider can supply a usable quote, the route returns a no-charge alternative — never a fabricated price.
Honest comparison
Alpha Vantage wins on breadth: fundamentals, technical indicators, forex and crypto series, and a free key tier. Use it for research catalogs. Quick Quote is for the moment inside a workflow — watchlist checks, alert enrichment, routing decisions — where one real reading at $0.001 beats carrying another market-data account.
It is read-only market data: not a brokerage connection, not an order router, not a recommendation engine.
