Samsung Electronics will launch the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on wireless earbuds in the Galaxy Buds lineup, in South Korea on Oct. 27. The open-ear design rests on the ears without blocking the ear canals. The product is designed to improve comfort during extended wear, awareness of surrounding sounds and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered hands-free functions.

Samsung said on Oct. 20 it used AI optimization technology based on 4D computing to design the Galaxy Buds On for different ear shapes. The design distributes contact pressure across the ears and incorporates a shape-memory alloy band to ensure a secure fit during exercise.

Samsung has also addressed the weak bass performance often associated with clip-on earbuds. The Galaxy Buds On features TwinBoost speakers with two identical woofers. The earbuds automatically adjust volume according to ambient noise and introduce sound leakage reduction technology for the first time in the Galaxy Buds series to minimize sound escaping into the surroundings.

For voice calls, the earbuds use three microphones, a bone conduction-based vibration sensor and machine learning technology. The system separates the user's voice from background noise to improve call quality in noisy environments. An accelerometer automatically identifies the left and right earbuds, allowing users to wear them on either ear without changing settings.

Samsung has also enhanced AI features. When connected to a smartphone or tablet supporting Galaxy AI, users can launch Gemini Live through voice commands. The earbuds support head gestures, allowing users to answer calls by nodding or dismiss alarms by shaking their heads. A Quick Voice Memo feature also enables voice recording by pressing and holding the back of an earbud.
