HD Construction Equipment is responding to emerging energy demand with the completion of a new engine and battery pack manufacturing plant.

HD Construction Equipment said Oct. 28 that it held a completion ceremony for the new facility at its Gunsan campus in the Gunsan National Industrial Complex. The company invested 116.8 billion won over two years to develop the plant on a 62,700-square-meter site.

The new plant has annual production capacity for 120 defense engines for tanks, 1,250 large-scale power generation engines rated at 1–3 megawatts electric (MWe), and battery packs totaling 1,460 megawatt-hours (MWh). The battery pack capacity is sufficient to equip 9,400 electric buses.

HD Construction Equipment aims to meet rapidly growing demand for high-output generators used in AI data centers. It plans to begin mass production of a 1.3 MWe engine model in the first half of next year, followed by 3 MWe engines in 2028 and 2 MWe engines in 2029. One MWe is equivalent to the electricity consumed simultaneously by 1,000 households.

The company also plans to respond reliably to medium- and long-term growth in demand for defense engines used in tanks while expanding battery pack supplies. It aims to generate 2.5 trillion won in revenue from its engine business by 2030.
