Global cybersecurity software company Trend Micro will provide up to 10 billion yen in support for cybersecurity modernization at Japanese companies and institutions.
Trend Micro announced on Oct. 19 that it would launch the Japan Cyber Resilience Initiative to strengthen cybersecurity in Japan.
Trend Micro is a server security solutions provider. Although founded in Los Angeles in 1988, it is a Japanese company. In 1996, its Japanese entity acquired shares in overseas affiliates, including those in Taiwan and the US, becoming the group’s holding company. The company transferred its stock listing to the Tokyo Stock Exchange, now the Prime Market, in August 2000. Its headquarters is also located in Tokyo.
The initiative focuses on modernizing security systems for individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while providing AI-powered security capabilities and technical support through partners. Support will be provided through license credits rather than cash grants.
Specifically, the program includes up to 10 billion yen in security software license credits, vulnerability assessments and technical assistance from field deployment engineers (FDEs), threat monitoring and incident response through managed detection and response (MDR), 60-day free trials of security solutions for SMEs, AI-powered fraud detection through LINE, and 90-day free access to an anti-fraud application for individuals.
Trend Micro’s Korean subsidiary, which marks its 30th anniversary in 2026, is not included in the initiative. Kim Jin-kwang, country manager of Trend Micro Korea, said, “Details of the initiative were not shared with Trend Micro subsidiaries outside Japan.” Asked whether the program could be expanded to South Korea, he said, “I believe it was planned and launched independently in Japan.”
Trend Micro Korea has worked with South Korean public institutions, including the National Information Resources Service, which has used its Deep Security server protection solution since 2019. According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s 2024 Statistics on Information Resources of Administrative and Public Institutions, Trend Micro products accounted for 33.9% of information security software used in public-sector IT systems in 2023.
Trend Micro’s revenue increased approximately 45.0% from 190.359 billion yen in 2021 to 275.984 billion yen in 2025. Ordinary profit rose approximately 21.3% over the same period, from 44.501 billion yen to 53.98 billion yen.
