正文

Disclosure: I built NomadSwipe, which is Android only. This comparison is my own, and it is the NomadSwipe side of the story, so read it with that bias in mind.

GPSmyCity is built around self-guided walking tours with offline maps, and its Google Play listing cites 1,800+ cities. If you want narrated audio, a day-by-day itinerary with reservations, or a way to choose places yourself by swiping, this page compares five options and says where each one fits.

Some readers look for a GPSmyCity alternative because they want something a set walk does not give them: a narrator, a shortlist they pick themselves, or one plan that also holds reservations. This page is based on the Google Play listings and websites of each app, read on 31 October 2026. Prices are shown only where the text we read states them.

Quick comparison

  • GPSmyCity: self-guided walks with route maps and turn-by-turn directions. Free to download; the listing shows in-app purchases and says a small payment is needed for route maps and turn-by-turn. The amount is not in the text we read.
  • NomadSwipe: choosing real places in one city by swiping. Free plan with limits; Premium as Monthly or Lifetime. Android only today.
  • VoiceMap: narrated walks, drives and boat rides. Free to download; the listing describes over 2,100 free and paid tours; per-tour price not confirmed.
  • Tripomatic: a day-by-day itinerary with offline maps. Free to download; the listing says offline use needs Premium; Premium price not read.
  • Wanderlog: an itinerary with reservations and a map of stops. Free app; the listing marks offline access as Pro; Pro price not read.
  • Google Maps: custom lists of saved places in the map app. The listing text we read does not state a price.

What GPSmyCity does

GPSmyCity's Google Play listing describes "thousands of self-guided walking tours, travel articles, and offline city maps in 1,800+ cities", and says the walks and articles work offline without a data plan. Its website reports over 7,000 self-guided walks, custom walks in 670+ cities, turn-by-turn walking directions and a detailed walk route map, and names iOS and Android.

The listing says you can create your own walking tour from the attractions that interest you. The parts of the listing and site we could read do not describe an audio narrator. We read no user reviews for GPSmyCity this run, so this article lists no complaints about it.

NomadSwipe

Best for: choosing real places in a city by swiping.

NomadSwipe is an Android trip planner. You pick a city and swipe through real places one card at a time: right to save, left to skip. Each card shows the category, rating, distance and opening status. Saved places are pinned on a map for that trip, and the list sorts by rating, distance or A to Z. The Lisbon sample trip has 16 places, all picked by swiping.

Strength: you do not have to find the places first. The deck suggests them, and you keep the ones you choose.

Limits:

  • No turn-by-turn navigation and no audio guide. Directions, website and call are one tap from a saved place.
  • No walking tour routes.
  • It does not import saves from Instagram, TikTok or other apps. Its listed features are swipe, save, map and go.
  • Android only today.

The free plan includes 3 trips, 2 destination searches a month, 2 custom pins a month and a limited number of swipes. Premium comes as Monthly or Lifetime. Up to 20 saved trips are available offline, per NomadSwipe's Play listing.

GPSmyCity against NomadSwipe

  • Platforms: GPSmyCity is iOS and Android, per its website. NomadSwipe is Android only today.
  • Offline use: GPSmyCity's listing says walks and offline city maps work without a data plan. NomadSwipe keeps up to 20 saved trips offline, per its Play listing.
  • Route guidance: GPSmyCity offers turn-by-turn walking directions, which its listing puts behind the small payment. NomadSwipe has none inside the app; directions open from a saved place.
  • Audio narration: not described in the GPSmyCity text we read. NomadSwipe has none.
  • How you choose places: with GPSmyCity you build a walking tour from the attractions you pick, or use its self-guided walks. With NomadSwipe you swipe real places and keep the ones you pick.
  • Saves from other apps: not described for GPSmyCity. Not supported in NomadSwipe.

VoiceMap

Best for: narrated walks, drives and boat rides.

VoiceMap's Google Play listing describes GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and boat rides in over 600 destinations. It says a downloaded tour works offline and includes an offline map, and it describes Virtual Playback, which turns a tour into a podcast you can play at home. The listing shows 100K+ downloads and an update on 26 October 2026.

Its website says the app is free to download and that tours are bought individually, with credit passes for discounted access. The listing says over 2,100 free and paid tours in 80 countries. It names Android and iOS.

Strength: per its website, the app plays the narration automatically when you reach the right place, after you tap Start.

Limit: the listing describes over 2,100 free and paid tours, so some tours cost money. We did not confirm a per-tour price.

Limit: the tours are made by local publishers and guides. You do not choose the places yourself.

Tripomatic

Best for: a day-by-day itinerary with offline maps.

Tripomatic's Google Play listing describes a day-by-day itinerary, estimated travel times and walking distances between stops, and AI help with planning. It lists 1M+ downloads and an update on 22 October 2026. The Sygic Travel web address now redirects to tripomatic.com, so our Sygic Travel alternatives page covers the same product line.

Strength: the day-by-day itinerary and the offline maps are both in the same app, per its listing.

Limit: the listing says offline use needs Premium, which also gives unlimited offline map downloads and walking navigation. We did not read the Premium price.

Wanderlog

Best for: an itinerary with reservations and a map of stops.

Wanderlog's Google Play listing calls it a "completely free travel app" for planning trips. It says you can add unlimited stops and view places to visit on a map. It also says "All your holiday plans are automatically stored offline", and marks "Access your trip plans offline (Pro)". The listing shows 1M+ downloads and an update on 23 October 2026. We did not read Pro prices this run. For more on Wanderlog, see our Wanderlog alternatives page.

Limit: the listing marks offline access as Pro next to its offline claim, and we did not read the Pro price.

Google Maps

Best for: custom lists of saved places in the app you already have.

Google Maps' Google Play listing says you can create custom lists of your favorite saved places and share them with others, and that offline maps help in areas with bad signal. The listing shows 10B+ downloads and an update on 30 October 2026. The listing text we read does not mention a paid tier, and it does not describe guided walks.

Limit: saving and sharing lists is not the same as choosing places by swiping through a deck of suggestions.

Which to choose

  • You want a day-by-day itinerary with offline maps: Tripomatic.
  • You want an itinerary with reservations and a map of stops: Wanderlog.

Method

We read the public Google Play listings of GPSmyCity, VoiceMap, Tripomatic, Wanderlog and Google Maps on 31 October 2026, and recorded only what each page states. Five listings is a small sample, so treat this as a snapshot, not a market study.
