UsefulGo:免費日常工具,毋須註冊或付費
# I'm Building UsefulGo — Free Everyday Tools, No Sign-Ups, No Paywalls 🚀
Hey DEV community! 👋
I'm a software developer, and for the past few months, I've been working on a side project called UsefulGo.
It started with a pretty simple thought:
Why do we need to create an account just to do something that takes 10 seconds?
Sometimes I just want to compress an image, remove a background, convert a file, or make a quick calculation.
But a lot of the time, the experience looks like this:
- Search Google for a tool.
- Open a website.
- Upload a file.
- Click download.
- "Please sign up to continue." 😅
Or even worse, you finish editing something and discover that downloading the result requires a subscription.
I know there are already plenty of great tools out there. But I kept thinking: what if I could bring the simple ones together in one place?
So I started building UsefulGo.
🌱 The Idea Behind UsefulGo
I wanted to create a collection of small, practical tools that people could use in their everyday lives.
Not another complicated platform.
Not another subscription.
Just open the website, use the tool, and get back to whatever you were doing.
My main goals are pretty straightforward:
- Free to use — Essential tools shouldn't require a subscription.
- No sign-up required — Open the tool and start using it.
- Simple and fast — No complicated menus or unnecessary steps.
- Accessible to everyone — Not just developers, but students, office workers, creators, and anyone who needs a quick solution.
- One place for everyday tasks — Instead of bookmarking 20 different websites.
I'm especially interested in building tools that people in the US and other countries might find useful during their daily work, studies, or creative projects.
🛠️ What I'm Building
Rather than trying to build hundreds of tools at once, I'm focusing on small utilities that solve real problems.
Here are some of the main areas I'm working on.
🖼️ Image Tools
Images are everywhere, and even simple image tasks can become surprisingly annoying.
Some of the tools I'm focusing on include:
Image Compressor
Need to upload a photo, send an image by email, or optimize images for a website?
Compressing images is one of those little tasks that comes up all the time.
Background Remover
Useful for product photos, profile pictures, presentations, social media posts, or just making a quick graphic.
Image Converter
Sometimes you just need to convert an image from one format to another without opening a full editing application.
My goal is to make these tasks as simple as uploading a file, choosing an option, and getting the result.
📄 PDF & Document Tools
PDFs are another everyday headache.
Whether you're a student submitting an assignment, an office worker handling documents, or someone filling out forms, you've probably needed to work with a PDF at some point.
I'm building out PDF-related utilities for common tasks such as viewing, converting, and extracting content.
I also want to explore OCR tools that can turn text in images or scanned documents into editable text.
🧮 Calculators & Everyday Utilities
Not every useful tool needs to be complicated.
Sometimes you just need to calculate something quickly.
I'm interested in practical utilities like:
- BMI calculators
- Currency converters
- Date and time calculators
- Unit converters
- Other small calculators for everyday situations
These might sound like tiny features, but that's kind of the point.
A tool doesn't need to be complex to be useful.
💻 Developer Tools
Since I'm a developer myself, I also want UsefulGo to include tools that make development a little easier.
Things like JSON formatting, text utilities, data conversion, and other quick helpers.
I often find myself searching for these tools while working on projects.
It would be nice to have my favorites in one place.
⚡ Why Free and No Login?
This is probably the most important part of the project for me.
I don't think someone should need to create an account just to compress a photo or calculate a percentage.
Of course, some advanced features may eventually require accounts, especially if they involve saving data or syncing between devices.
But for simple, everyday utilities, I want to keep things as frictionless as possible.
Open → Use → Done.
That's the experience I'm aiming for.
I'm also trying to keep the website lightweight and easy to use, including on mobile devices.
👨💻 The Journey So Far
Building UsefulGo has been an interesting experience.
As a developer, it's easy to get excited about technologies, architectures, frameworks, and new features.
But working on this project has reminded me of something important:
Users don't really care how complicated your code is. They care whether your tool solves their problem.
A simple image compressor that works smoothly might be more valuable to someone than a feature-packed application that's difficult to use.
I'm learning a lot about product design, performance, SEO, user experience, and figuring out which tools are actually worth building.
One of my biggest challenges right now is deciding what to prioritize.
There are so many ideas, but I don't want to build tools just to increase the number of tools on the website.
I'd rather build something people actually come back to use.
And to be clear, UsefulGo is still a work in progress.
Some tools are available, some are being improved, and others are still on my roadmap.
I'm building it step by step.
🚀 What's Next?
My long-term goal is to turn UsefulGo into a practical toolbox that people can rely on for small, everyday tasks.
I'm planning to keep improving the image and PDF utilities, add more useful calculators, and explore tools for developers, students, and content creators.
I'm also trying to learn more about what people actually search for and use regularly, especially in the US market.
Instead of guessing what users need, I'd love to hear directly from them.
❤️ I'd Love Your Feedback
If you've made it this far, thanks for reading!
Here's the project:
I'm not here to claim I've built something revolutionary.
I'm just a developer trying to make everyday online tasks a little easier, one tool at a time.
And I'd genuinely appreciate your feedback.
A few questions for you:
- What free online tools do you use almost every day?
- What's a tool you wish didn't require an account or subscription?
- If you visited UsefulGo, what would you want me to build or improve next?
Even one suggestion would help me decide what to work on next.
Thanks for checking out my little project. Happy coding! 🚀
I'm planning to share more about the development journey, technical decisions, mistakes, and lessons learned as UsefulGo grows.
