Mintech has established an automated testing center in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, capable of processing used batteries from up to 30,000 electric vehicles annually.

Mintech said on Oct. 26 that it held an opening ceremony for the Pohang EV Battery Automated Testing Center and began full-scale operations. The center was developed through a four-year project led by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, North Gyeongsang Province and Pohang City, with Mintech overseeing the installation of automated systems.

The facility can process used batteries from 150 electric vehicles per day, or up to 30,000 annually. Mintech applied its proprietary high-speed diagnostic technology based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), along with artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms.

The center automates the entire process, from battery intake and performance evaluation to grading and transportation, improving on conventional inspection methods that rely heavily on manual operations.

Building on its experience developing the center, Mintech plans to expand sales of automated inspection equipment to domestic and overseas automakers and battery reuse and recycling companies.

"Based on the successful outcome of this project, we will actively supply Mintech's battery inspection and diagnostic solutions to global markets," said Mintech CEO Hong Young-jin.
