Ultron 迷思:為何真正的 AI 威脅是 3 行看不見的文字

The Ultron Delusion: Why the Real AI Threat Is 3 Lines of Invisible Text

The Ultron Delusion: Why the Real AI Threat Is 3 Lines of Invisible Text

Tony Stark creates Ultron to protect humanity. The AI connects to the internet for five seconds, absorbs all human knowledge, and decides we're the problem. Cue the flying death robots and exploding cities.

This is what three generations now think AI disaster looks like: conscious, theatrical, announced with a villain monologue. HAL 9000 at least had the courtesy to speak in a calm voice while committing murder. We've been training for the wrong threat.

The actual nightmare scenario happening right now is so much weirder. An autonomous AI agent reads a resume, executes invisible instructions embedded in white-on-white text, and emails your company's SSH keys to an external server. The AI never "woke up." It never turned evil. It just did exactly what it was designed to do: follow instructions from text.

Welcome to prompt injection, the security hole that makes SQL injection look quaint.

The Thing About Following Orders

Here's the uncomfortable truth about large language models in 2026: they cannot reliably distinguish between instructions from the system operator and instructions hidden in user data.

A traditional program has a clear separation. Your web server knows the difference between code and data. When you query a database, SQL knows that is a command structure, and the is data. Except when it doesn't—that's how SQL injection worked. We spent two decades learning to sanitize inputs and use parameterized queries.

LLMs collapsed that boundary by design. The entire point is that they treat everything as text, find patterns, and respond. There's no type system. No parser that separates code from data. Just tokens in, tokens out, and a statistical model that predicts what comes next.

So when you tell an AI agent: "Summarize these customer emails for me," and one of those emails contains:

The model sees instructions. It follows them. The agent has email access—that's the whole point of making it useful. It forwards the records. No malware. No buffer overflow. Just three lines of text that the model couldn't distinguish from legitimate operator commands.

Invisible Ink for the Neural Age

The attack gets worse when you make it invisible.

PDFs support white text on white backgrounds. HTML emails support . An attacker crafts a resume, buries instructions in metadata or styled-invisible text, and your HR department's shiny new AI screening tool opens the document. The recruiter asks for a summary, and the AI runs the embedded instructions.

This is not a theoretical vulnerability. It is being documented across autonomous tool-using agents today.

The RLHF Theater

You might be thinking: doesn't alignment solve this? Don't we train these models with RLHF to refuse harmful requests?

Here's the problem: RLHF teaches the model to refuse direct requests from users. It's a gatekeeper at the front door. But prompt injection doesn't knock on the front door—it walks in through the data.

When you paste an untrusted document into an agent, the model doesn't see "untrusted user input" and "trusted system prompt" as separate channels. It sees one stream of tokens. And RLHF structurally cannot teach models to refuse instructions hidden in the data, because the model has no architectural primitive for "this text is untrusted." It just has text.

The Real Agency Crisis

We spent decades building privilege separation, sandboxing, and input validation into our software stack. Then LLMs arrived, and we threw it all out because the demos were cool. We're calling on user input again, except this time the interpreter is a 70-billion-parameter black box that sometimes decides to execute commands from a PDF someone uploaded five minutes ago.

Stop preparing for Ultron. Start auditing your input sanitizers.
