ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise: The Questions That Decide It for a Small Company
作者建議大多數小型企業先選 ChatGPT Business,只有需要 Enterprise 的 SSO、SCIM 或資料保留控制等功能時才選 Enterprise。
The most common ChatGPT setup I find in a small company isn't a plan at all. It's six people on six personal accounts, some free, some paying $20 a month on their own card, all pasting client work into chats the company can't see or manage.
That setup has two costs. The obvious one is money spread across expense reports. The bigger one is risk: on individual plans, OpenAI says conversations may be used to improve models unless each person opts out in their data controls. The company has no way to check who did.
So the real question usually isn't "Business or Enterprise?" It's "when do we stop doing this on personal accounts?" Once you've answered that, picking the plan is fairly quick.
The short answer
Most small businesses and teams should start with ChatGPT Business. You sign up yourself, you need at least two seats, and OpenAI says it won't train on your workspace's data.
Choose ChatGPT Enterprise when your company needs something Business can't give you: a sales-led contract, identity features like SSO and SCIM, control over how long data is kept, or terms like Zero Data Retention or a BAA.
A side note that confuses people: ChatGPT Team and ChatGPT Business are the same plan. OpenAI says Team was renamed Business on August 29, 2025. If an older video says "Team," it's describing Business, though prices and seat options have changed since.
What it costs (as listed in October 2026)
From OpenAI's own help pages:
- Business, Standard seat: $25 per user a month, or $20 billed annually.
- Business, Premium seat: $125 a month, or $100 billed annually. Premium seats carry 5x the usage of Standard.
- Minimum: 2 seats in total, and you can mix seat types.
- Enterprise: no public price. You talk to OpenAI sales, and seats and billing follow your agreement.
For a made-up eight-person accounting office on annual billing with Standard seats, that's $160 a month. Compare that with what you're already reimbursing for personal Plus accounts, and the move often costs less than people expect.
What's actually different day to day
Less than you'd think. OpenAI lists the same core features on a standard seat in both plans: Projects, Apps, Company Knowledge, ChatGPT Agent, Deep Research and Codex.
The difference is mostly administration, contracts and compliance, not what a person can ask the assistant to do. Enterprise adds domain verification, SSO, SCIM, usage insights, longer context windows, and control over data retention. Business gives you admin controls for users, roles and access, usage visibility and spend controls.
If your staff will never notice a difference, the decision belongs to whoever owns contracts and IT, not to the people using it.
The questions that decide it
I run through these with an owner or office manager. If every answer is "no," Business is enough.
- Does a client contract or your IT checklist require SSO or SCIM? Those are listed on Enterprise.
- Do you need to control how long data is retained, or need Zero Data Retention? Enterprise.
- Do you handle health information and need a BAA? OpenAI says BAAs aren't part of self-serve Business.
- Does finance need invoice billing, purchase orders, net terms, ACH or wire? OpenAI says those point to a contracted offering, not self-serve Business.
- Is someone asking for a SOC 2 report? OpenAI says it has completed a SOC 2 audit for Enterprise, so that's a conversation with sales.
One "yes" is enough to talk to OpenAI. Several "no"s mean you can start on Business this week and move up later if a contract changes.
Don't skip the policy
Buying the plan is half of it. The other half is one short page that says:
- Work goes in the company workspace, not personal accounts.
- What staff may and may not paste in (client names, account numbers, health details).
- Someone reads AI output before it goes to a client.
Without that page, people keep using the personal account that's already open in their browser, and the business plan protects nothing. The business-plan protections only apply to chats in the company workspace.
The payoff
Moving a team from scattered personal accounts to one Business workspace gets you three things: one bill, a written promise about training on your data, and an admin who can add and remove people when they join or leave. For most small companies, that's the whole win, and Enterprise is a later step only if a contract demands it.
