直接使用 AI 生成程式碼的雙刃效應:風險與回報

Double-Edge Miracle: Risks and Rewards of Direct Interface with AI code generation

Direct interface with AI code generation is a double-edged sword: it delivers substantial gains in prototyping speed and accessibility, but carries significant costs in code comprehension, security, and long-term maintainability. The core tension is an inversion of authorship and oversight—developers shift from writing code to reviewing AI output, where short-term velocity can come at the price of technical debt and skill erosion.

The Rewards: Speed, Accessibility, and Prototyping Power

The most immediate benefit is extreme development speed and lowered barriers to entry. Non-technical founders can build an MVP over a weekend, and startups can test product ideas at multiples of the traditional pace. One study reported that vibe coding reduced task completion time by 27% compared with traditional coding and 12% compared with AI-assisted coding . Some platforms claim organizations can achieve application development speedups of up to 5.8x . For exploratory projects, one-off scripts, or early prototypes, this "describe the intent and it runs" model unlocks creativity and lets business users validate concepts directly.

Additionally, AI assistants can dramatically reduce time spent consulting documentation and writing boilerplate code, freeing developers to focus on design, user experience, and strategic thinking. Some experienced developers acknowledge that AI is already an efficient tool they would not want to give up.

The Risks: Comprehension Gaps, Security Blind Spots, and "Hollow Seniority"

The first layer of risk is the erosion of code comprehension and maintainability. A controlled study of 54 students found that while coding agents improved initial task completion, they harmed users' understanding of their code, leaving them unable to extend their own work without the AI; low-effort interaction patterns such as copy-pasting prompts and auto-accepting edits were directly linked to lower comprehension . A separate study identified "comprehension debt"—the growing gap between what a team knows about its codebase and what it needs to understand to maintain it—with accumulation patterns including AI-as-black-box acceptance, dependency-induced atrophy, and verification bypass . This means that when AI-generated systems fail, developers may lack the mental models needed to debug them.

The second layer is the security and compliance vacuum. AI-generated code can inherit vulnerabilities from training data or use outdated, insecure libraries. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security warns that vibe coding introduces supply chain integrity risks, unclear code provenance, and potential sensitive information leakage, because AI providers may retain input data for training . Code generated from unknown provenance may inherit vulnerabilities, create licensing or copyright obligations, or even contain code intentionally modified by threat actors . Deploying AI code to production without review is effectively a gamble on unknown behavior. The ACM Technology Policy Council similarly notes that vibe coding often skips core engineering practices, producing code that is difficult to maintain and systems that are hard for humans to review .

A third, subtler risk is the deskilling pipeline problem. By eliminating opportunities for junior programmers to struggle through debugging and build foundational mental models, increased AI use may paradoxically contribute to a shortage of experienced workers—while simultaneously deskilling those already in mid-career . The short-term productivity gain may thus mask a long-term degradation of the expertise needed to supervise the very tools producing the code.
