LS Electric said Chairman Koo Ja-kyun delivered a keynote address on next-generation power grids at the 2026 International Conference on Electricity Distribution (CIRED) Workshop, held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul on Nov. 2.

Koo said power grids must become more reliable to ensure stable operations of AI data centers while also using AI to manage electricity networks more efficiently. He outlined a virtuous cycle between "Grids for AI," which supplies power to AI infrastructure, and "AI for Grids," which uses AI to manage power networks.

He identified direct current (DC) and intelligent platforms as key technologies for next-generation power grids. Koo emphasized the need to move beyond conventional one-way electricity supply systems and build infrastructure combining alternating current (AC) and DC to meet the specific requirements of customers, including data centers.

"By integrating data and AI into power equipment, we must transform power grids into intelligent, bidirectional energy platforms capable of detecting abnormalities early and flexibly exchanging energy," Koo said.

LS Electric is expanding its business in North America by supplying power conversion systems (PCS) and power solutions for data centers. As electricity consumption by AI data centers increases, power distribution equipment and power conversion technologies are becoming increasingly important.
