美國太陽能或電池發電項目延遲一個月後,下月投運機率略高於新列項目
A U.S. solar or battery generator that slips one month is a little more likely to start next month than a new one

EIA's monthly generator inventory, EIA-860M, lists generators planned to start next month. Fewer than four in ten of them are listed as operating in that month now. EIA wrote in November 2025 that solar delays are usually short, a month or two. If that is right, a solar generator that was planned for last month, slipped, and is planned for next month again should be close to done. Before counting, I fixed four predictions and published them.
All four held. In 2022-2025, a solar generator planned for next month again right after a one-month slip was listed as operating in that month 40% of the time. A new solar listing made it 36% of the time, and one back after a slip of 2-3 months only 27%. In January to August 2026 the same solar comparison was 33% against 23%. For batteries in 2022-2025 it was 35% after a one-month slip against 28% for a new listing.
For solar, a slip of 2-3 months is the bad sign, and that is new. In 2016-2019 a solar generator back after a 2-3 month slip did almost as well as one after a one-month slip (0.548 against 0.578). In 2022-2025 the gap was 0.131.
Two things to keep in mind:
- In the same tables, gas and wind go the other way: a gas generator listed again right after a one-month slip was on time less often than a new gas listing in both 2016-2019 and 2022-2025. Those cells sit at few plants and were not fixed in advance, so I have fixed a new test on 2020-2021, a period I have not split this way.
- These are generator-months, and "on time" means the next monthly file lists the generator as operating. Generators at one plant are not independent, so there is no significance test. These are rates for groups, not forecasts for one generator.
