Taihan Cable & Solution has secured a major power grid contract in the United States.

Taihan said in a regulatory filing on Oct. 15 that it signed a 120 billion won contract with its subsidiary T.E.USA (TAIHAN ELECTRIC USA LTD) to supply materials for an extra-high-voltage power grid project awarded on a turnkey basis. The contract represents 3.21% of the company’s revenue of 3.636 trillion won last year.

T.E.USA will oversee the overall project, including local engineering and construction, while Taihan will manufacture and supply extra-high-voltage cables and cable accessories. Details including the total project value and customer were not disclosed due to a confidentiality agreement. The project is scheduled for completion on Dec. 31, 2028.

Taihan secured extra-high-voltage power grid projects in the UK, Singapore and Australia in the first half of this year. In January, it also won a 100 billion won turnkey project in the US. The company secured all the 500-kilovolt (kV) high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) underground power grid projects and a contract to supply 320kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables.

The contracts have helped drive rapid earnings growth. Operating profit reached 60.8 billion won in the second quarter and 121.3 billion won in the first half. First-half operating profit more than doubled from 55.7 billion won a year earlier, reaching more than 94% of last year’s full-year operating profit of 128.6 billion won. The company’s order backlog stood at 4.0629 trillion won as of the end of June, surpassing 4 trillion won for the first time in its history.

US electricity demand has been rising rapidly amid increased construction of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Investment is also expanding to replace aging power grids and build new transmission infrastructure.
