AI coding tools are getting incredibly powerful.

You describe what you want, press Enter, and seconds later, you've got working code.

Sounds amazing, right?

But there's a problem that many developers have probably experienced.

Generating code is one thing. Understanding an entire project is something completely different.

And that difference can become a real headache.

The Problem With AI-Generated Code

Imagine you're working on a project with dozens of files, different components, database connections, and custom functions.

You ask an AI assistant to implement a new feature.

It gives you a solution that looks perfect.

Clean code. Good structure. No obvious errors.

But then you realize:

It recreated a function you already had.

It ignored how your existing components communicate.

It used a completely different coding pattern.

It didn't consider how the changes might affect other parts of your application.

The code itself might be correct, but that doesn't mean it's right for your project.

And this is where things get interesting.

What If AI Could Understand Your Project?

Think about how much time developers spend explaining the same things to AI assistants.

"This is how my authentication works."

"We already have a function for that."

"Don't modify this part of the application."

"Here's how the database is structured."

Even with today's increasingly capable AI coding tools, keeping the right context available can still be a challenge.

Sometimes it feels like we're spending almost as much time explaining our projects as we are building them.

But imagine an AI assistant that could work with the relevant context of your codebase.

One that could understand your existing functions, project structure, and dependencies before suggesting changes.

Instead of treating every request as an isolated coding task, it could provide suggestions that better fit the application you're actually building.

Less repetitive explaining. More relevant suggestions. A smoother development workflow.

Of course, project awareness alone wouldn't eliminate bugs. Testing, security checks, and human code review would still be essential.

But it could make AI-assisted development much more practical.

Introducing Project Brain 🧠

This is exactly the direction we're exploring at CodShot.

For those unfamiliar with it, CodShot is a workspace designed to help developers save, organize, search, and reuse code snippets.

It also includes AI-powered tools for generating and fixing code, along with GitHub importing and collaboration features.

But we want to take things further.

We're currently developing Project Brain, an upcoming project-aware AI assistant.

Our goal is to create an assistant that can work with your project's structure, code, and relevant context while you're developing.

The idea is simple:

Instead of repeatedly explaining how your application works, the AI could use the context it needs to provide more relevant assistance.

Imagine working on a feature and having an AI assistant that can take your existing project structure into account instead of treating every request as a completely new problem.

That's the kind of experience we're working toward.

Project Brain is still under development and isn't available yet, but we're actively working toward bringing it to developers soon. 🚀

We're excited about its potential, and we're looking forward to sharing more as development progresses.

Connecting Your Existing Code with GitHub 🔗

Developers already have valuable code stored across GitHub repositories, and we believe that knowledge shouldn't be difficult to reuse.

That's why CodShot also includes GitHub Import.

You can connect your GitHub account, browse your repositories, and import selected files or folders directly into your CodShot workspace.

It's a read-only import, so your original repositories remain untouched.

This makes it easier to bring useful code from existing projects into one organized environment instead of manually copying everything between different tools.

Combined with CodShot's snippet organization and AI-powered tools, GitHub Import helps you build a structured collection of reusable code from projects you've already worked on.

And as we continue developing Project Brain, our broader vision is to make project knowledge and AI-assisted development work together more naturally.

Bringing CodShot Into VS Code 💻

While Project Brain is still being developed, another important part of CodShot is already available.

Our VS Code extension is completed and available to download!

We know that developers spend much of their time inside their code editor, so bringing CodShot into the VS Code ecosystem is an important step for us.

Our longer-term vision is to make code organization, reusable knowledge, and AI-assisted development work together more naturally.

We don't want developers to constantly jump between disconnected tools just to find something they've already created.

And Project Brain is an important part of that direction.

The Future Isn't Just About Writing Code Faster

AI has already changed how many of us approach programming.

But generating more code isn't necessarily the same as building better software.

The real opportunity is making AI more aware of the context in which developers work.

Existing functions. Project architecture. Dependencies. Coding conventions.

All the small details that can make the difference between a useful suggestion and another piece of code that needs to be rewritten.

The best AI coding assistant shouldn't just help you write code. It should help you understand and work with the project you're building.

That's the future we're interested in exploring with Project Brain.

And while we're not there yet, we're excited about what comes next.

What Do You Think? 💬

We're curious to hear from other developers.

What's your biggest frustration when using AI coding assistants on existing projects?

Does the AI forget important context?

Does it generate functions you already have?

Does it struggle with your project's architecture?

Do you find yourself explaining the same things repeatedly?

Or do you think current AI coding tools already handle these problems well?

We'd genuinely love to hear your experiences and ideas.
