Intro

If you’ve been job hunting in Bengaluru over the last year, you know it’s been a strange ride. Some months felt like a freeze, and others felt like everyone was hiring again. Here’s what I’ve seen and learned, mixed with some real numbers.

The market: slump, then recovery

Early 2026 was rough. Bengaluru had about 26,000 tech openings in February, up 8% from January but down 23% year-on-year. Nationally, hiring hit a low in June. Since then it has bounced back: active tech openings in India reached a record 1,30,000 in November 2026, after five straight months of recovery from the 93,000 low in June.
So if you gave up in the spring, it’s worth restarting your search now.

What’s changed

  • GCCs are a big deal now. Global Capability Centers in Bengaluru are no longer just support or maintenance offices. They do serious product and engineering work, and they’re a major source of openings.

  • AI skills get a premium. Even if you’re not an ML engineer, showing that you can build with LLMs or use AI tooling well sets you apart.

  • Generic applications go nowhere. Mass “spray-and-pray” applications tend to vanish into the void in a market that’s faster and more selective than before.

Practical tips

  1. Apply directly on company career pages in addition to the big job boards, which are crowded.
  2. Get referrals. Reach out to people for a 10-minute chat, not just a “please refer me” message.
  3. Ship something small and visible. A deployed side project beats a longer resume.
  4. Tailor your resume per role. Match the stack in the JD and lead with your most relevant project.
  5. Prep for system design and fundamentals, not just LeetCode. Interview loops at product companies and GCCs have shifted that way.
  6. Negotiate. Know your market range before the HR call.

Mistakes I made (optional but great for engagement)

  • [e.g., waiting too long for a “dream” offer, underselling my experience in the first call]

Closing

The market is clearly better than it was six months ago, but it rewards people who are targeted, not people who apply to 500 jobs. If you’re searching right now, what’s working for you? Drop your experience in the comments.

Two suggestions to make it stronger:

Add your role, years of experience and tech stack, since advice lands differently for freshers versus seniors.
Add one honest story, such as a rejection or a surprising offer. Personal stories get far more comments than tip lists.
