OpenEvidence announced on November 4, 2026 that it had launched Learn, a free personalized medical education platform for trainees and clinicians throughout their careers, extending its AI technology from point-of-care support into education.

The company developed Learn with medical institutions, certifiers and educators. Its Learn destination requires visitors to log in or register and offers email, Google, Microsoft Account and Apple sign-in routes, putting the no-cost service behind an OpenEvidence account.

Four Tools for Study and Clinical Practice

Test Prep contains more than 50,000 board-style questions for medical school, residency, fellowship and board-examination practice. Coverage includes USMLE, COMLEX, and specialty and subspecialty board examinations, giving the platform a question bank that spans several stages of medical training.

Preceptor instead uses Socratic, case-based AI tutoring. Users can work up a simulated patient at their own level of training across specialties and clinical settings, adding an interactive reasoning exercise alongside conventional test preparation.

Flashcards can be generated from questions asked through OpenEvidence, missed Test Prep questions or any chosen topic. The cards can be reviewed at spaced intervals to strengthen retention. The CME tool addresses a different part of professional learning by awarding credit for clinical questions users already ask and keeping all certificates in one place.

All four tools draw on the continuously updated peer-reviewed evidence and clinical guidelines that power OpenEvidence answers. OpenEvidence says this shared foundation keeps every question, case and flashcard aligned with current medical practice. The design connects examination practice, simulated cases and review cards to one evidence base, so the educational products are built around the same material used to generate clinical answers.

Medical Schools to Guide Development

Vishal Patel, MD, OpenEvidence’s vice president of Clinical Partnerships and AI Education, framed the product around the need for clinicians to continue learning as new evidence and tools change medicine. “The best clinicians stay curious and keep asking questions. Our goal with Learn is to encourage continual learning and sound clinical judgment,” he said.

OpenEvidence plans to add active-learning and clinical-reasoning tools with medical schools, residency programs and medical educators. Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania are the two schools named at launch. They will invite trainees and attending physicians to explore Learn and provide feedback.

That input is intended to guide development and tailor the tools to participating programs’ curricula and training needs. The partnerships therefore have a defined product role: Learn’s expansion depends on turning its shared evidence base and general training tools into material fitted to the programs and clinicians expected to use it.
