MacPaw on October 15, 2026 launched Eney, a proactive AI assistant for Mac and iPhone that the company says understands what is happening across a user’s apps, files and system, prepares the next step and asks before it acts.

The announcement, datelined Boston, describes Eney as built for the Mac rather than the browser: it reads the context of the machine itself, from the apps a person works across to the files on disk and the meetings on the calendar. According to MacPaw, the assistant notices what needs attention — a call about to start, a meeting that needs a summary, a disk running out of space — prepares the next step and puts it in front of the user for approval.

MacPaw positioned the launch against a year it described as defined by AI agents that act on their own, arguing that the barrier to broader use is trust rather than adoption. In the company’s own research of US Mac users conducted in July and August 2026, 81 percent had used an AI tool in the previous three months, while 39 percent said AI was embedded in how they work. MacPaw said Eney is built for that gap: proactive, never autonomous, and by default it asks before it sends a message, changes an event or moves a file, with the user deciding how much it can do on its own.

Founder and chief executive Oleksandr Kosovan said in the announcement that since 2008 MacPaw has built tools that take care of the Mac, and described Eney as the next step: a careful colleague rather than a chatbot, one that lives on Mac and iPhone, spots what is waiting, prepares the next step and asks before anything is sent or changed.

How Eney Works

Eney lives on the Mac rather than in a browser tab, so the assistant that drafts a reply can also report what is filling up the disk. MacPaw says Eney can recognize an upcoming calendar meeting and remind the user before it starts; when the call begins, it can offer to transcribe the conversation and then prepare meeting notes, action items and a follow-up invitation for approval. Eney works with Apple Mail, Calendar and Reminders out of the box and connects to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, Notion, Jira and Linear, with new connectors added regularly.

A feature called Eney Wand is invoked by pressing Option-W and dragging over anything on screen. MacPaw says it can translate text in place, convert a price, turn a date into a calendar event, copy text out of an image or blur content that should not be shared, without saving screenshots or switching apps.

Ready-made workflows include Morning Brief, Plan My Day and Weekly Review, which run on demand or on a schedule with no technical configuration. Eney warns about low disk space, memory pressure and apps that keep crashing, suggests fixes, keeps Downloads tidy and finds files, and nothing moves until the user confirms. Eney Spell checks spelling, grammar and wording inside Mail, Slack, Notes or the browser, and double-tapping the Option key opens Eney from anywhere for typed or spoken input. The assistant works in eight languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese and Ukrainian.

The official Eney site additionally lists file and document tasks, such as creating and editing documents, splitting PDFs and converting formats, and media tasks including image generation and editing, video trimming and QR code creation.

The Mnemos Memory Layer

MacPaw said Eney is the first product powered by its own AI stack, with the Mnemos memory layer at its core. According to the company, Eney remembers what matters to the user, updates a fact when it is corrected or goes out of date and shows when an answer draws on memory, while Mnemos manages only Eney’s own memory and never reads or changes the user’s files or other apps.

MacPaw’s Mnemos documentation describes a pipeline that captures events immediately with no model in the write path, connects people, facts, relationships and time into a knowledge graph in the background, retrieves memories with time awareness, and lets memories fade, consolidate or be removed with a verifiable record. The documentation says Mnemos keeps three kinds of knowledge separate: Told, covering preferences, corrections and pinned memories stored as settings; Written, covering facts found in files, chats, notes and mail, each tied to its source; and Observed, patterns marked as inferred that the user can correct or override.

On privacy, the documentation states that Mnemos is local by default with opt-in, purpose-specific cloud calls; that sensitive entries can sit in a per-entry encrypted vault with optional Touch ID; that sensitive data is redacted before it reaches any model; and that device identifiers are withheld from search results unless explicitly requested.

MacPaw reports that Mnemos scored 89.0 percent accuracy on the 500-question LongMemEval-S benchmark and 100 percent single-session recall in internal September 2026 reference runs against mem0’s self-hosted open-source SDK, Zep’s Graphiti engine and MemOS, using identical conversations, answers written by GPT-5 and one Gemini judge. The page cautions that vendor-published scores from other harnesses, configurations and judges are not directly comparable with its controlled numbers.

Mnemos runs on Liquid Foundation Models developed through joint research and development by MacPaw and Liquid AI and tuned for Apple silicon, according to the documentation. The page also describes Portable Memory, an open-source, vendor-neutral format with a Swift implementation for moving AI memory across apps and devices, and states that Mnemos is in development, with demos available on request.

Pricing and Availability

Eney is available now for Mac through eney.ai and for iPhone on the App Store, and is free to try for the first 14 days with 10,000 AI credits. Users can sign in with a Setapp account without a Setapp membership. The Mac version requires macOS 15 or later and draws on Setapp AI credits, shown in Settings under Usage; the official site lists M-series Macs as the hardware requirement.

After the trial, the official pricing lists Starter at $14.99 per month for 10,000 credits, Boost at $29.99 per month for 20,000 credits and Power at $49.99 per month for 30,000 credits. Subscriptions renew automatically every month unless canceled, cancellation is allowed anytime and unused credits do not roll over. According to the Eney FAQ, the assistant accesses apps and files only with user permission, and every AI request runs through Setapp’s built-in AI service and draws from the user’s credit balance, with simple tasks using few credits and larger ones using more.
