Full disclosure: I work on OnePassApps.

OnePassApps is one membership for a set of web apps. Seven of them are browser-local studios that process files inside your tab. The other two are hosted apps that run on our servers, and MovieMatcherAI is one of those two. It is a movie and TV tracker: you browse a catalogue, then sign in to keep a private record of what you want to watch and what you have already seen.

This post is about how the app actually behaves today, including the parts that are limited.

You can browse without an account

Guest browsing is open. The app's own line on the Browse screen says it plainly: "Browse freely now. Sign in to save ratings and shape your feed." The header has three sections — Browse, Watchlist and Ratings — and the sign-in prompt is a separate control, so nothing on the catalogue is hidden behind it.

The two personal screens say so as well. Watchlist reads "Your watchlist starts after sign-in", with the line "Browse freely now. Sign in to keep films for later, mark them watched and add notes." Ratings reads "Rate films after you sign in", adding "Sign in to keep your ratings, reactions and watch history private to you."

The flow the app describes

The landing screen lays out three steps:

  1. "Rate three you've seen"
  2. "React to anything" — "Picks adapt as you go"
  3. "Keep a watchlist" — "Sign in to sync it"

The wording matters because rating and reacting are two different signals, not one. The app guide spells it out: "Saving a personal rating marks the title Watched and preserves an existing first-watched date. A reaction is a separate signal from the rating."

Searching and filtering the catalogue

The Browse screen carries a search field with the placeholder "Search titles", three views — All films, New releases, Top rated — and four filter controls: Rating, Genre, Year and Person, with a Clear filters button beside the result count.

Search works straight away without signing in. Typing Digger into the field narrowed the grid down to a single card for that title, and the clear control switched to "Clear search". Each card carries the title, the year, the genre and a rating state, so a whole catalogue can be scanned without opening anything.

What a title page gives you

Opening a title shows more than a poster. The detail page for Masterplan carried:

  • A trailer line: "Trailer by KinoCheck · plays on YouTube"
  • Type and genre chips: MOVIE · COMEDY · CRIME THRILLER
  • A synopsis — "Masterplan is a film released in 2026 directed by Thomas Vincent. Genres: comedy, crime thriller."
  • Credits — Director Thomas Vincent, Writers David Wolstencroft and Thomas Vincent, Cast Stanley Tucci, Simona Tabasco, Victor Belmondo, Release date 16 October 2026, Languages English, plus a Sources and licences section
  • Actions: Watch trailer, Watchlist, Mark watched
  • A MORE LIKE THIS strip, which offered Digger (2026 · Drama)

The catalogue footer is explicit about where the material comes from: "Trailer preview supplied by KinoCheck. Film materials retain their respective owners' rights."

The one setting worth reading carefully

Next to the rating controls there is a Not interested option, and the page explains its scope in one sentence: "Not interested hides this title from your recommendations only. Your ratings and tracker are unchanged."

So hiding something from your feed is not the same as deleting it, and it is not the same as rating it. If you want a title gone from your own lists, that is a different action.

What signing in unlocks — and what it costs

The guide is clear about the split. "Guest browsing and title details are available; personal Tracker changes request sign-in when you make them." Signing in adds the private Tracker, ratings, notes and reactions, and the guide states that "Personal reviews and tracking notes remain private in this release."

It is equally clear about the hosted side: "Film analysis and fresh movie data look-ups run on our servers for your account and use credits from your plan's recurring allowance, which the Free plan includes." The plan block on the page itself reads: Standard is free right now, $0 / month, 100,000 credits every 30 days · No end date set · No card required, and "No automatic paid subscription. Existing paid subscriptions keep their terms."

The honest limits

Three, straight from the guide:

  • "TV tracking covers whole series, not seasons, episodes or repeated watches."
  • "Catalogue and provider information may be incomplete or stale. Missing ratings and streaming data are omitted; recommendations are suggestions, not promised outcomes."
  • "Does a provider listing prove local streaming availability? No. A listed provider is not a regional availability verdict. Verify availability with the service before making a viewing plan."

If you want the step-by-step version with the exact workflow, the app guide is the place to start.
