Short answer: most of a RedNote (小红书, Xiaohongshu) post is not in its caption. It is written into the images or spoken in the video, so a copy-paste translator sees only part of it. Paste the note's share link into LinkDigest and choose English: it reads the public share page, reads the text in every image, transcribes a video's speech, and returns all of it in English next to the Chinese. No RedNote account, no cookies. Translation adds 1 credit to the read; sign-up comes with 10 free credits.

Disclosure: LinkDigest is the author's own service. The run below was made on 2026-11-02 against a public note. First published at linkdigest.dev.

What a translator misses

If all you need is the caption, the app's own translate option or any translator will do. What they cannot reach:

  • Text drawn into the images. Cover cards, lists, prices and quotes are pixels on RedNote, not text you can select.
  • What is said in a video. RedNote publishes no captions or transcript; subtitles you see are burned into the picture.
  • The share page itself. ChatGPT and most tools cannot open a RedNote link at all, so there is nothing to translate until something reads it.

One real run

The note is the public one used in our post on the two share-link domains: an image note about video-generation research, with a quote card as its image.

Time 26 seconds, read fresh
Cost 2 credits: 1 for the read, 1 for the translation
Translated title, the 661-character caption, 7 key points, the text on the image, the image description
Kept in Chinese the original of every field, so you can check the translation against it
Not translated the 5 top comments (of 207) read from the share page — they come back in Chinese

The title came back as "I feel like video generation will be crushed by LLMs + video understanding", and the three text fragments on the quote card as two English lines. Each translated key point stands next to the Chinese quote it was taken from.

How to do it

In the browser: sign in, paste the share link on the workspace, set Translate to English (or 日本語, 한국어, 中文), and read.

From code: add translate_to to the call.

curl -X POST https://linkdigest.dev/api/v1/digest \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ld_live_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"url": "https://xhslink.com/o/...", "translate_to": "en"}'

The response keeps every original field and adds translation:

Field What it holds
translation.title, translation.caption The post's words in English
translation.ocr_text[] The text read from the images or video frames, translated
translation.image_descriptions[] Each image described in English
translation.transcript_text A video's speech, translated as one text
translation.key_points[] The takeaways, each still tied to its Chinese quote
translation.note What the translation left out, if anything

From an agent: in Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client, the digest_url tool takes the same translate_to. Setup is on the Xiaohongshu platform page.

The link you need

Copy it in the RedNote app with Share → Copy link. RedNote serves a note only to a link that carries its xsec_token; a bare /explore/<id> address lands on a "page not found" that looks exactly like a deleted note. Nine ways of writing one note's link, measured, shows which ones open.

Limits, said plainly

  • Comments are returned as written, in Chinese; only the post itself is translated.
  • A transcript longer than 24,000 characters is translated from its start only, and translation.note says how far it got. The Chinese transcript is always whole.
  • Speech recognition is Mandarin-first; strong dialect or music over speech lowers accuracy, and coverage says how much was heard.
  • Public posts only. A deleted or private note, or a link without its token, returns a clear error and costs nothing.

For the speech alone, with timestamps and no translation, see RedNote transcript.
