Despite China’s efforts to boost semiconductor self-sufficiency, domestic tech firms’ immense demand for compute has led to a shortage, prompting them to ramp up imports. Those supplies are often caught in geopolitical crosshairs, as the US and China — locked in a fierce AI race — maneuver to deny each other technological advantages.
Amid fears in Washington of advanced tech leaking to China, Republican lawmakers called for Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to brief them on his alleged ties to a Chinese businesswoman accused of providing intelligence to Beijing.
