Hanwha K9 輪式自走榴彈炮獲美國陸軍命名為 XM1776

Hanwha Aerospace's K9 wheeled self-propelled howitzer, designated XM1776 by the U.S. Army, is on display at AUSA 2026 in Washington, D.C.

Hanwha Aerospace announced on Oct. 13 at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2026 defense exhibition in Washington, D.C., that its K9 wheeled self-propelled howitzer, known as the K9MH, has received the U.S. Army designation XM1776.

The designation references 1776, the year the United States declared independence.

Hanwha Aerospace signed a contract in August to supply K9MH prototypes for the U.S. Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon (MTC) program and delivered the first prototype this month. The U.S. Army assigns designations beginning with “X” to equipment in the development and testing stages, dropping the letter if the system is formally adopted.

At the exhibition, Hanwha Aerospace showcased the K9MH alongside its tracked K9 self-propelled howitzer, Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher, and Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile (L-SAM) air defense system. It also presented a scale model showing construction progress at a 155-millimeter ammunition production facility being built in Arkansas.

Meanwhile, Hanwha Systems displayed a short-range active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar for the North American market for the first time. Designed to detect small drones, the radar features artificial intelligence (AI)-based detection and identification technology.
