Intel and SAP announced a partnership in physical artificial intelligence (AI) technology at SAP TechEd 2026 on Oct. 29.

The companies integrated SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), a warehouse logistics management system, with Intel's edge AI hardware and software.

When a company makes operational decisions and enters task context and processing rules into SAP EWM, the information is transmitted to autonomous robots powered by Intel semiconductors. The robots execute tasks and report their progress and completion results to the enterprise system in real time.

The integration closely connects enterprise IT systems with on-site operations, establishing a bidirectional structure in which robot task instructions and reporting circulate automatically. Demonstrations showed shorter travel distances and significantly less repetitive manual work compared with standalone robotic automation.

Intel's edge AI hardware incorporates heterogeneous semiconductor technologies combining central processing units (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs) and neural processing units (NPUs). The hardware supports local perception, inference, navigation, inspection and real-time control for industrial robots.

The software uses Intel's OpenVINO Physical AI, Physical AI Studio and Robotics AI Suite. The open software supports robots from multiple manufacturers, operating systems (OS) and AI models. It can minimize fragmentation when integrating robots from different vendors into a single management system.

The two companies plan to develop the proof of concept (PoC) for the physical AI-powered autonomous warehouse into a standardized blueprint. This would enable intelligent automation to scale across different facilities and robot models.
