SK hynix held its first Partners Day event in Japan, bringing together key suppliers and company executives, including Lee Byung-gi, chief production officer (CPO), Kang Yoo-jong, executive vice president and head of procurement, and Choi Woo-jin, executive vice president and head of packaging and testing (P&T).

SK hynix hosted the event in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, on Oct. 29, meeting with about 20 key local business partners. Participants included materials suppliers Shin-Etsu, SUMCO, JSR and NAMICS; equipment makers Tokyo Electron and SCREEN Holdings; back-end process companies DISCO and Advantest; and component suppliers.

SK hynix shared updates on its business operations and medium- to long-term strategy, including key technologies under development and future technology roadmaps. The discussions were aimed at helping suppliers anticipate demand and proactively invest in equipment and expand production capacity.

“South Korea and Japan have a complementary relationship,” Lee said. “The capabilities of Japanese suppliers are a key factor in strengthening SK hynix’s technological competitiveness. We will expand cooperation to ensure that the semiconductor ecosystems of both countries grow together.”

“Close cooperation with materials, components and equipment partners is directly linked to semiconductor competitiveness in the AI era,” Kang said. “We will work as one team with our Japanese partners to address next-generation technology challenges and support growth in the AI memory market.”

Hiroshi Ishida, vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of Tokyo Electron, said, “Sharing medium- to long-term roadmaps with SK hynix at an early stage and maintaining close dialogue helps guide our technology development and investment decisions. We will continue to share technical challenges from the early stages of development and grow together.”
