CareKit:為在乎的人打造小型 AI 助理

CareKit: Building a Little AI Assistant for Someone I Care About

What I Built

I built CareKit, a personal AI assistant designed to make everyday life a little easier for someone I care about.

Life gets busy, and managing daily tasks, organizing routines, and deciding what to prioritize can sometimes feel overwhelming. I wanted to explore how AI could help with these small but meaningful challenges.

CareKit is built around a simple idea: technology should be useful to the people we care about, not just impressive on a screen.

How I Built It

I approached CareKit with one main goal: make AI useful for a real person and an everyday problem.

The project is designed around a simple interface and an AI assistance layer that can be adapted to the user's needs.

My goal is to use open-weight AI models and open-source tools to make the application flexible and customizable. This approach allows developers to experiment with different models and improve the application without depending entirely on a single proprietary AI provider.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

For something designed to help someone personally, flexibility and privacy matter.

Open-source tools and open-weight models give developers more control over how their applications work. They make experimentation easier, allow different models to be explored, and create opportunities to adapt technology to specific needs.

Depending on the model license and deployment setup, local inference can also help keep personal information on the user's device rather than sending it to an external service.

Open innovation makes experimentation more accessible. Developers can learn from existing work, improve what already exists, and share their contributions with the community.

For me, building for a friend is a reminder that AI doesn't always need to solve a huge problem. Sometimes, making one person's everyday life a little easier is enough.
