A main battle tank fires its main gun down a city street – slow motion

ATTRITION is a free, Tarkov-like extraction shooter for Windows. Take your own gear into a city where every wall can be blown apart, fight AI squads alone or with a friend – and lose it all if you don't make it back.

Why I built it

Most shooters forget everything when you die. I wanted a war that keeps going without you – where the rifle on your back is actually yours to lose.

-Your gear, your risk. Go in with a free standard kit, or with gear you bought and looted. Die, and it stays on your body for whoever gets there first.
-Get home, get paid. Walk out, drive out, or call a heavily armed helicopter – it isn't cheap.
-Every wall is a decision. Shoot through it, breach it, or bring the whole building down.

The AI actually communicates

A soldier fires from a window – the room explodes

This is the part I'm most proud of. The AI only knows what someone saw, heard or reported – no wallhacks.

  • Tank on the street? The squad calls it out, the leader radios type, position and heading. Other squads re-route around that street – or send their anti-tank gunner to the flank while the rest keeps it busy. Riflemen don't waste magazines on armor.
  • You drop three of them from a window? The rest takes cover, estimates where the shots came from and stops walking into the same spot. If a whole squad goes silent, command notices and marks the area as a kill zone.
  • Clearing a house: covering fire → grenade → two-man entry → "room clear" only once the corners have actually been seen. A quiet enemy behind furniture can still surprise them.
  • Out in the open: one team covers, the other bounds from cover to cover. Nobody crosses open ground without someone watching their back.

Simulated like the real thing

-Ballistics: muzzle velocity, drag per caliber, bullet drop, penetration through walls and armor plates.
-Organs, not hit points: brain = instant, heart = a few seconds, lungs = bleeding and gasping. Plates only protect what real plates cover.
-Field medicine: tourniquets, pressure bandages, splints – with first-person animations.
-Sound: real recordings only, with distance, echo and the delayed boom of far-away shots.

Under the hood

  • Godot 4.7 – gameplay in GDScript, the heavy lifting (voxels, navigation, movement, poses) in C++ via GDExtension.
  • Signed delta updates: the game checks for new builds, downloads only changed files and verifies the signature before installing. Updates ship several times a day.
  • Automated QA: before every release a test pass checks the UI and the world for things like floating trees, clipped buttons and overlapping text.

Play it in 60 seconds

  1. Download ATTRITION-Windows.zip
  2. Right-click → Extract All
  3. Start ATTRITION.exe – if Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway (not code-signed yet)

Heads-up: it's an early alpha, so expect bugs. The game text is German for now – English is coming, and the menus are short and easy to use.

I'd love your feedback – what felt good, what broke, what you'd add next? Drop it in the comments. And if you want to follow along, a ⭐ on GitHub means a lot to a solo project. 🙏
