CleanYourTV 如何用編碼助手在 15 分鐘內移除 Android TV 或 Google TV 廣告

How to strip the ads off an Android or Google TV in 15 minutes with a coding agent

Android TV and Google TV boxes ship with sponsored rows, "Discover" nags and analytics you never asked for. CleanYourTV fixes that with plain Android tooling and a coding assistant: it backs up the TV, disables the manufacturer's ad and telemetry packages, and installs a small launcher with a pitch-black home and a dock of four apps.

No root, no cable, nothing uninstalled, and a restore script if you change your mind. With the repo as context, the README says it takes about fifteen minutes.

How it works

Android TVs have the same debug bridge (ADB) as Android phones. Once USB debugging is on and you allow your computer once, your coding assistant does three things:

Step What happens
Back up Saves the list of installed packages and settings.
Disable Turns off telemetry, ad services, content rows and preloaded junk with pm disable-user. Nothing is uninstalled.
Install Puts a small native launcher on the TV and makes it the default home screen.

The bloat differs by brand, so the prompt has the assistant discover it on your TV and ask before touching anything you might use.

What you need

  • An Android TV or Google TV, on the same Wi-Fi as your computer.
  • A coding assistant with shell access. The README names Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI.

Step 1: Turn on USB debugging on the TV

Go to Settings, Device Preferences, About, press OK on Build seven times, go back, open Developer options and turn on USB debugging. If you also see a Network or ADB debugging toggle, turn that on too. Keep the TV on.

Step 2: Paste the prompt

Clone or open the repo, paste PROMPT.md into your assistant, and fill in your TV model.

Step 3: Follow along

Accept "Allow USB debugging?" on the TV. Then answer the assistant's checklist:

  • which apps you actually use
  • the dock size and app order
  • whether to keep the voice assistant, Chromecast and system updates

The assistant backs up, debloats, builds and installs the launcher, and checks each step with screenshots it pulls from the TV. Look at those screenshots and confirm the new home screen is the default.

Want the privacy part without a new launcher?

You can stop at the debloat. Ask the assistant to back up the package list first, review the ad, telemetry and content-row packages it finds for your model, approve the list, and let it run pm disable-user on the approved packages only. Keep the restore script.

A prompt you can paste:

Using the Gathin23/cleanyourtv repo as context, disable only the ad, telemetry and content-row packages found for the TV model <tv-model>, using pm disable-user, and keep the restore script. Expected output: a list of disabled packages and the path to the restore script. Verify that every package still appears in the installed package list after the change.

What about Fire TV, Samsung and LG?

  • Fire TV: the debloat half only. Fire OS will not hand Home to a third-party launcher, so your home screen stays as Amazon ships it.
  • A few China-market TCL sets: they refuse to install any launcher at all.
  • Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS): different systems, so the ADB route does not apply. The repo's SHOWCASE.md points to webOS ports.

Safety notes

The assistant runs ADB commands that change system packages on your TV. Review every disabled-package list before you accept it. Lists tested on one model may not match another, even within a brand.

If you do not have a computer, the README points to a community-built Android phone app that runs the same connect, analyse and clean flow.
