HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) said on Oct. 28 that third-quarter revenue reached 8.2862 trillion won and operating profit totaled 1.4472 trillion won, driven by increased revenue recognition from high-value vessels, improved productivity and strong performances at major subsidiaries, including the engine and machinery businesses. Revenue rose 9.3% from a year earlier, while operating profit increased 37.3%. Compared with the previous quarter, however, revenue fell 7.2% and operating profit declined 12%, reflecting fewer working days and a stronger Korean won.
Cumulative revenue through the third quarter reached 25.3541 trillion won, while operating profit totaled 4.4483 trillion won. In the first nine months, the company achieved 85% of last year’s full-year revenue and 114% of its operating profit.
Major subsidiaries reported growth in both revenue and operating profit. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries posted revenue of 5.7536 trillion won and operating profit of 899.2 billion won, increases of 30.2% and 61.3%, respectively, from a year earlier. The gains were driven by improved performance in the engine and machinery and offshore plant businesses. HD Hyundai Samho recorded revenue of 2.3704 trillion won and operating profit of 479 billion won. Revenue rose 20.5% and operating profit increased 56.3% from a year earlier, supported by a higher proportion of sales from liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
HD Hyundai Marine Engine reported revenue of 211.4 billion won and operating profit of 60.3 billion won, up 93.8% and 197%, respectively, from a year earlier. Increased engine deliveries and a higher revenue contribution from dual-fuel engines supported earnings growth. HD Hyundai Energy Solutions posted revenue of 150.8 billion won and operating profit of 20.4 billion won. The company maintained profitability, led by its solar module business, with revenue rising 24.6% and operating profit increasing 38.8% from a year earlier.
The shipbuilding division recorded revenue of 6.8393 trillion won and operating profit of 1.1453 trillion won, increases of 10.3% and 32.3%, respectively, from a year earlier. Profitability improved as revenue recognition from high-value vessels increased and productivity rose.
The offshore plant division posted revenue of 379.8 billion won and operating profit of 126.4 billion won. Revenue increased 35.4% from a year earlier, while operating profit swung into positive territory. Higher revenue from increased project completion rates and additional income recognized from contract modifications contributed to the improvement. The engine and machinery division recorded revenue of 1.2012 trillion won and operating profit of 290.1 billion won, up 0.7% and 19.3%, respectively, from a year earlier. An improved product mix and revenue growth at HD Hyundai Marine Engine were the main drivers.
HD KSOE plans to focus on selectively securing orders for high-value vessels and improving productivity. The company will also move to expand its overseas shipbuilding operations in the US and Saudi Arabia. It aims to enter the power generation equipment market for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers using its proprietary medium-speed HiMSEN engine. The company is currently in discussions with global technology giants over engine supply agreements.
