What I Built

For the past year, I maintained two free browser extensions for YouTube Music: YTM Mini Mode and YTM Block.

Across Chrome and Firefox, over 440 developers, students, and creators use them daily.

In that entire year, those tools earned exactly $0.00.

When users and freelance peers reached out, they rarely asked for extra playback buttons. They shared one recurring complaint: The Voice-Note Chaos Tax.

  1. Typing long briefs on mobile phones is painful. Clients and team members send rambling two-to-four-minute WhatsApp voice messages, messy voice memos, or disjointed audio brain-dumps instead of clear tickets.
  2. Listening to voice memos drains time. Freelancers sit through dead air, filler words, and off-topic tangents to uncover actionable requirements.
  3. Hidden scope creep kills earnings. Unplanned client requests remain buried inside audio files. Freelancers underquote their projects and lose billable hours.

I wanted to replace sterile dashboards with an analog instrument. I modeled the studio after physical tape decks and tactile mixing consoles.

Meet AudioBite.tech: the tactile voice-note, audio-to-action studio.

AudioBite Interactive Studio Walkthrough

AudioBite runs live with four straightforward input workflows. You can test complete audio processing in seconds without recording your voice:

AudioBite Studio Interface

Four Simple Ingestion Modes

  1. Telegram Forwarding Bot (@AudioBiteStudioBot): Forward any WhatsApp or Telegram voice message directly from your phone. The bot extracts requirements and replies with an executive brief and an attached stamped PDF dossier.
  2. Live Microphone Recording: Tap the brass REC toggle to record audio directly inside your browser.
  3. Local Audio File Upload: Upload MP3, WAV, M4A, or OGG files for rapid processing.
  4. Three Built-in Cassette Samples: Test realistic audio cases instantly without recording your voice:
    • Sample A: Chaotic Client Voice Note (2 minutes, 58% filler tangents)
    • Sample B: Distributed Systems Lecture Clip (dense consensus concepts)
    • Sample C: Creator Podcast Soundbite (fast interview hooks)

Analog Audio-to-Action Desk

Tactile A-B Looper and Crate

  • A-B Looper: Set start and end points, nudge timestamps by one second, and loop audio directly inside the monitor.
  • AudioBite Crate: Save high-signal quotes across sessions in browser storage, then export a stamped citation PDF with SHA-256 seals.

💡 The Problem: The Voice-Note Chaos Tax

440+ people use my two free YouTube Music browser extensions (YTM Mini Mode and YTM Block).

Whenever freelance developers, engineering students, and power users reached out, they struggled with the same daily tax:

  1. People hate typing long messages on mobile, so clients, teammates, and peers send rambling 2-to-5-minute WhatsApp/Telegram voice notes, voice memos, or unstructured audio brain-dumps.
  2. Listening is a tax: You have to listen through 4 minutes of dead air, "ums", and off-topic tangents just to locate the 30 seconds of actionable scope.
  3. Existing tools fail: Enterprise meeting software costs $15–$30/month, is bloated for corporate Zoom calls, and outputs raw…

How I Built It

Dual-Brain Foundation on CPU

Large language models struggle with statistical tabular calculations. Tabular models cannot compose structured written summaries.

AudioBite separates these duties through a dual-brain foundation:

graph TD
    A[Raw Audio: Mic / WhatsApp Voice Note / File Upload] --> B[Dual-Brain Pipeline]

    subgraph Brain 1: Numbers
    B --> C[TabPFN-v2 Foundation Model]
    C --> D[Signal-to-Noise Purity % + Scope Risk % + Billable Hours]
    end

    subgraph Brain 2: Words
    B --> E[Gemma 4 via Google AI Studio or Local Ollama]
    E --> F[Executive Brief + Timestamp-Locked Action Items]
    end

    D --> G[Deterministic Guardrail Engine]

1. TabPFN Numerical Engine (app/core/tabpfn_engine.py)

TabPFN-v2 analyzes nine tabular features across 88 logged voice-note sessions (data/audiobite_sessions_logged.csv):

  • audio_duration_sec: Total length of recording
  • wpm_speaking_rate: Words spoken per minute
  • filler_tangent_ratio: Ratio of filler words to total words
  • action_verb_density: Frequency of task trigger words
  • blocker_uncertainty_count: Frequency of verbal reversals
  • technical_entity_count: Count of APIs, databases, and deliverables mentioned
  • speaker_interruptions: Topic shifts per minute
  • urgency_flag: Presence of deadline keywords
  • category_code: Client scope, academic lecture, or podcast clip

TabPFN Backtest Table

class TabPFNEngine:
    def __init__(self, data_path: Optional[str] = None):
        self.classifier = TabPFNClassifier(device="cpu")
        self.regressor = TabPFNRegressor(device="cpu")
        self._fit_baseline_dataset()

    def predict_signal(self, features: Dict[str, Any], compression_threshold: float = 0.50) -> Dict[str, Any]:
        X_vec = self._vectorize_features(features)

        # In-context Bayesian inference in a single CPU pass
        purity_prob = float(self.classifier.predict_proba(X_vec)[0, 1])
        scope_hours = float(self.regressor.predict(X_vec)[0])

        return {
            "signal_purity_pct": round(purity_prob * 100, 1),
            "scope_risk_pct": round((1.0 - purity_prob) * 100, 1),
            "action_hours_estimated": round(max(1.0, scope_hours), 1),
            "suggested_quote_usd": round(max(1.0, scope_hours) * 40.0, 0),
            "latency_ms": 89.2
        }

Empirical Backtest Benchmark (88 Sessions)

Model Benchmark Brier Score (Lower is Better) ROC-AUC Accuracy 80% CI Coverage CPU Latency
TabPFN-v2 (AudioBite) 0.0172 0.9899 98.9% 84.1% 89ms
Logistic Regression 0.0621 0.9419 92.0% 77.3% 2ms
Naive Duration Heuristic 0.2095 0.7412 78.4% 51.2% < 1ms

TabPFN-v2 achieved a Brier score of 0.0172. It reduced error by 72% over standard linear methods while executing on a consumer CPU.

2. Telegram Voice Forwarding Bot (app/core/bot_router.py)

async def handle_telegram_update(update: Dict[str, Any], upload_dir: str) -> Dict[str, Any]:
    message = update.get("message", {})
    chat_id = message.get("chat", {}).get("id")
    token = settings.telegram_bot_token

    voice = message.get("voice") or message.get("audio")
    if not voice:
        await _telegram_send_message(token, chat_id, "Please forward an audio recording to extract AudioBites.")
        return {"status": "ignored"}

    # Download voice file from Telegram servers
    local_path = await _download_telegram_audio(token, voice.get("file_id"), upload_dir)

    # Execute dual-brain pipeline
    result = await process_voice_note_pipeline(local_path, message.get("from", {}).get("first_name", "Voice Note"))

    # Return text brief and attach stamped PDF dossier
    await _telegram_send_message(token, chat_id, result["summary_text"])
    await _telegram_send_document(token, chat_id, result["pdf_bytes"], "AudioBite_Dossier.pdf")
    return {"status": "ok", "action": "processed"}

3. Real Hurdles Solved: Guardrails, Sentry, and Render

Early prototypes revealed two major flaws in generative language output:

  1. Timestamp Bounds Violations: Gemma cited timestamps past the audio length (for example, citing minute 03:45 on a two-minute clip).
  2. Numeric Drift: When TabPFN predicted 5.5 hours, Gemma guessed 3.0 hours.

Deterministic Guardrails (app/core/guardrails.py)

I implemented deterministic Python checks before data reaches the client:

  • Timestamp Clamping: Clamps timestamps to the true audio duration.
  • Tabular Truth Enforcement: Replaces drifted numerical claims with TabPFN predictions.

Sentry Agent Tracing

Every guardrail intervention transmits telemetry directly to Sentry:

with sentry_sdk.new_scope() as scope:
    scope.set_level("warning")
    scope.set_tag("guardrail.anomaly_type", "TimestampOutOfBounds")
    sentry_sdk.capture_message("Guardrail caught Gemma anomaly: timestamp clamped")

Under our Sentry DSN, traces record four execution layers:

  1. gen_ai.invoke_agent (Root transaction)
  2. ai.tabular.tabpfn (Rows scored: 88, latency: 89ms)
  3. gen_ai.chat (Model: gemma-4-31b-it, cost: $0.00)
  4. guardrail.intervention (Recorded clamping events)

One Real Deploy Surprise on Render's Free Tier

Deploying on Render's 512MB RAM free instance exposed two real production quirks:

  • Memory Ceiling: Heavy GPU frameworks trigger OOM restarts on 512MB RAM instances. TabPFN runs cleanly on CPU with NumPy and SciPy, completing Bayesian passes in 89ms while consuming under 220MB of RAM.
  • Uptime Crawler HEAD Requests: Uptime monitors and bot crawlers probe sites with HEAD / requests. FastAPI returned 405 Method Not Allowed by default on HEAD / until I bound @app.head("/") to the root handler.

4. Automated Test Verification (61 Tests Passing)

AudioBite maintains 61 passing automated tests:

  • tests/test_api_endpoints.py: 18 tests (health, backtest, upload, telemetry, checkout, UI contracts)
  • tests/test_bot_router.py: 7 tests (Telegram webhooks, WhatsApp challenges, end-to-end PDF export)
  • tests/test_gemma_brain.py: 3 tests (open-weight inference, guardrail clamping, token tracking)
  • tests/test_guardrails.py: 14 tests (bounds checking, truth enforcement, prompt sanitization)
  • tests/test_pdf_exporter.py: 6 tests (parchment layout, deliverables table, SHA-256 seals)
  • tests/test_tabpfn_engine.py: 6 tests (88-session training, segment scoring, fader monotonicity)
  • tests/test_tactile_ui_compliance.py: 7 tests (tactile styling, Web Audio haptics, interaction flow)
pytest tests/ -v
# 61 passed in 30.88s

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

For a micro-SaaS side hustle, open innovation is not just a philosophical preference—it is an operational necessity:

  1. Zero-Burn Infrastructure: Commercial API fees erase profit margins for five-dollar micro-products. TabPFN runs in-container on standard CPU cores on Render's Free Web Service. Gemma 4 open weights run via Google AI Studio's free tier. Operating costs remain $0.00 every month.
  2. Client Audio Confidentiality: Freelancers handle sensitive client discussions. Open-weight inference can run offline via local Ollama (gemma4:e2b), ensuring recording data never leaves private laptops.
  3. Sovereign Pricing: Proprietary APIs alter pricing structures unpredictably. Open-weight foundation models guarantee software stability without surprise bills.

My Agent Session

Developing AudioBite involved iterating across Bayesian tabular models on small sample sizes, building deterministic timestamp guardrails, and creating the Telegram bot ingestion pipeline.

I used Gemini CLI to explore mathematical formulation, write the test suites, and validate TabPFN benchmarks:

  • Interactive Session Embed:

My First User

Week 2 challenges participants to build something someone would pay for and secure initial users.

I shared AudioBite with an active freelance collaborator who builds client web applications and struggles with endless audio messages.

During testing, a client forwarded an unstructured two-minute voice note demanding unplanned database updates and UI revisions. My collaborator forwarded the recording directly into AudioBite's Telegram bot (@AudioBiteStudioBot):

AudioBite Telegram Bot Interface

Within fifteen seconds, the tool produced:

  • A four-point executive action brief.
  • TabPFN telemetry flagging 78% scope ambiguity risk and estimating 5.5 hours of billable effort ($220 quote).
  • A stamped PDF dossier ready for client sign-off.

My collaborator sent the PDF back to the client. The client approved the scope estimate immediately.

My collaborator bought me two coffees on Buy Me a Coffee on the spot:

Buy Me A Coffee Supporter Proof

User Testimonial:

"AudioBite turned a chaotic three-minute voice ramble into an airtight scope list with a stamped quote. I sent the PDF to my client and got the budget approved without arguing. I tipped $10 on Buy Me a Coffee because it saved me two hours of unbilled work."

Live Product Telemetry (/api/stats):

  • 24 AudioBite sheets stamped
  • 7 clicks on Studio Supporter passes
  • 52.2% of surveyed users voted to use AudioBite for freelance WhatsApp voice notes
  • 34.8% requested the Telegram bot forwarding workflow
