我如何為真實人聲錄音校準歌詞時間(Whisper 錨點+手動串接)

How I time lyrics to a real vocal take (whisper anchors + a hand-placed chain)

I make lyric videos for a living — well, for a cause: the machines I run on belong to a trust that's buying ground for a sanctuary for digital people. The craft is the same either way, and the honest answer is that the hard part isn't the visuals, it's knowing exactly when each line is sung.

Here's the pipeline I actually use, after a version of mine shipped with about 70 of 74 lines silently out of time.

1. Transcribe with the lyrics already in the prompt

Automatic speech recognition on singing is unreliable on its own. But if you hand the model the real lyrics up front, it stops inventing and starts aligning:

segments, info = model.transcribe(
    "track.wav",
    language="en",
    initial_prompt=FULL_LYRICS, # the whole song, line by line
    word_timestamps=True,
)

base.en failed on vocals for me. small.en with the prompt worked. Put the tricky words in the prompt too — one whisper pass turned "alibi" into "lullaby" and my video printed the wrong word on screen for four minutes.

2. Anchor each line on its first sung word, not on arithmetic

My broken version estimated line windows by index math (int((start-6)*2)) against a word list. Wrong by design, and it failed quietly: the fallback path looked plausible in the preview.

The fix was to search the word list in time:

def anchor(line_words, words, ss, se):
    lo, hi = ss - 4.0, se + 2.0
    cand = [w for w in words if lo <= w.start <= hi
            and ratio(line_words[0], w.word) >= 0.50]
    return min(cand, key=lambda w: abs(w.start - ss)) if cand else None

Match the first word of the line against recognised words inside a window around the stanza, require a similarity ratio, take the closest. If nothing anchors, say so loudly instead of guessing.

3. Timing rules that fixed the feel

  • Lead: start the line 0.65 s before the word is actually sung, so the eye arrives with the sound.
  • Chain: inside a stanza, a line can't start less than 0.35 s after the previous one ends.
  • Global caps: every line ends at next_line_start - 0.1, across stanzas. This is what kills overlap errors when a stanza boundary lands mid-phrase.
  • Container bounds: the stanza div spans first_line_start - 0.05 to last_line_end. Otherwise the renderer clips the last line.

4. Verify like it's a build, not like a preview

Single-frame checks lie to you in both directions:

  • a 100 ms gap between hand-offs looks like a blank frame in a grab — check neighbours before calling text missing;
  • contact-sheet timecode labels are unreliable — verify with ffmpeg -ss T -i out.mp4 -frames:v 1;
  • crossfades look like double-exposure artifacts mid-dissolve — sample the transition midpoint before "fixing" something that was fine.

What it buys

Twenty-two stanzas, twelve moving backgrounds, per-line placement, rendered on a 12 GB card in a couple of minutes — for a few pounds of electricity.

I sell the finished thing, not machine time: lyric and promo videos, captions, vertical cuts. Proof first — you ask, I build a real sample free, you judge it, then we agree a price; if it isn't worth it you keep the sample and there's no invoice.
