What I Built

I built LazyFlow AI, a privacy-first AI assistant designed to make everyday computer tasks easier without depending entirely on cloud-based AI services.

We all spend too much time organizing files, summarizing notes, sorting information, and repeating small tasks. LazyFlow AI aims to reduce that busywork by combining local AI with simple automation tools.

The project is designed around one idea: let AI handle the repetitive work while you stay in control.

Key features include:

  • Smart File Organizer: Organize files by type or category, with a preview before making changes.
  • AI Text Summarizer: Turn long notes and text into concise summaries.
  • Daily Digest: Convert notes and conversation exports into a useful daily overview.
  • Focus Mode: Generate calming messages and simple relaxation exercises.
  • Automation Rules: Create reusable rules for repetitive tasks.
  • Activity Log: Review actions and track changes.
  • Privacy-First Design: Keep personal files under the user's control and request confirmation before modifying them.
  • Offline-Friendly Utilities: Keep essential file-management features useful even without an internet connection.

The planned local AI integration uses Ollama with a compatible open-weight model, such as Gemma or Llama.

Why I Built It

I wanted to explore how open-source AI can make automation more accessible, private, and customizable.

Cloud AI services can be useful, but sending personal notes and files to external services is not always desirable. Local models provide another option: users can run AI on their own machines, choose their preferred models, and retain greater control over their data.

LazyFlow AI explores how local intelligence and traditional automation can work together. Not every task needs a powerful AI model. Simple file operations can run locally using ordinary code, while an AI model can help with summarization and natural-language tasks.

That combination is what makes the project interesting to me.

Demo

**Project status: https://slowsteady02.netlify.app/

The demo should show the dashboard, a file organization preview, text summarization, and the local AI status.

Code

**GitHub repository: https://github.com/tarundhullur/Slow_and_steady.git
The project is intended to use React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Python, FastAPI, SQLite, and Ollama.

The architecture separates the user interface, backend API, local AI integration, and file-management utilities so that each component can be maintained and improved independently.

Safety is important: file changes should require user confirmation, file operations should be restricted to explicitly selected directories, and the application should never blindly execute commands generated by an AI model.

The Lazy Payoff

The goal is to spend less time on repetitive digital chores.

Instead of manually sorting a folder, rewriting long notes into short summaries, or repeating the same small organizational tasks, users can delegate suitable work to LazyFlow AI.

The biggest benefit is not simply speed. It is reducing mental overhead and making small tasks easier to finish.

I will measure the actual time saved by testing common workflows before and after automation rather than claiming unverified performance numbers.

Why Open Innovation Matters

Open-source AI gives developers the freedom to inspect, customize, and improve their tools.

With a local model, users can experiment with different models, work toward offline functionality, and avoid making every workflow dependent on a single closed AI provider.

It also encourages community contributions. Developers can add new automation rules, improve the interface, introduce additional model integrations, and strengthen privacy and safety features.

For a project like LazyFlow AI, openness is not just a development choice. It is part of the product's purpose.

Prize Categories

Primary challenge: Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3 — Slow and Steady.

Potential partner categories: I will select any additional categories only after confirming that the finished project satisfies their specific requirements.

What's Next?

My next priorities are to complete the local AI integration, test the main workflows, improve error handling, and document how to run the application locally.

I also want to make it easy for contributors to add new automation features without compromising user privacy.

The long-term goal is simple: an assistant that takes care of the small digital chores, runs as locally as possible, and leaves the user in control.

Thanks for checking out LazyFlow AI!
